Digitization Advisory Group

FAQ

What is the Digitization Advisory Group (DAG)?

The Digitization Advisory Group (DAG) is a permanent four person cross-functional team within the Central University Libraries.

What does DAG do?

DAG helps library staff members who are considering or working on digitization projects. DAG will help you create a comprehensive project proposal that will cover all the planning elements relevant to your project. Project managers must obtain approval for their project from their individual Executive Council representative and from the whole Central University Libraries Executive Council (EC). Once EC has approved your project, DAG will advise you on how to implement it.

What happened to the previous Digitization Committee?

The CUL Executive Council and the Council of Library Directors disbanded the previous Digitization Committee once the funding for the temporary position of Digitization Content Manager expired. At that point, the Central University Libraries Executive Council created the Digitization Advisory Group to assist library staff in following the procedures previously established by the former Digitization Committee.

What happened to projects that received management approval under the previous Digitization Committee?

If a project has already received Executive Council (EC) approval, then the Digitization Advisory Group (DAG) will follow up with individual project managers to review their progress and make recommendations. However, we have limited documentation regarding the activities of the previous Digitization Committee. Please contact us if you have questions about specific projects.

What do I do if I just have a question about some aspect of digitization (how to scan, how to manage digital files, etc.)?

While we are primarily focused on full scale digitization projects, we are happy to answer your digitization questions. Simply fill out the "Ask a Question" form and we will contact you as soon as we can.

My SMU library is not part of CUL. Who do I ask for digitization help?

Since your library is not part of Central University Libraries, the management approval process will be different for you. However, we may still be able to answer some of your digitization questions. Simply fill out the "Ask a Question" form and we will contact you as soon as we can.
