This is the first published map devoted solely to the Spanish province of "La Florida." Geronimo Chaves, Royal Cosmographer to Felipe II of Spain and the Netherlands, undoubtedly based his map upon original Spanish sources - possibly the manuscript map attributed to Alonso de Santa Cruz for Hernan de Soto's expedition of 1539-1543.

Cornelis de Jode (active 1588-1600) and Gerard de Jode (1501-1591)
